Peter Muller is a great bassist living in Germany. His technique on the instrument is only overshadowed by his musicality and it's been great to see the progression of his songwriting over the last few years. His new album, "The Flow", has just been released on his own label - Mullennium Records.

David Avenius - The new CD sounds great! Will you be touring Europe to support it? Are the tour dates on your website?

Peter Muller - Thanks Dave! We are working to get a tour together in summer/fall. This information will be up on my website www.petermuller.de as soon as I know more.

DA - How would you say this album is different than your last?

PM - The new album "The Flow" shows a greater variety of my style, sound, composition and production. While my first album "M-Vibez" contained tribute elements to Marcus Miller, I thought it was time to demonstrate the "real me" now. 4 years between two releases is a long time in which a musician naturally develops. On the new CD I put different elements together, Jazz, Funk, Soul, R&B. You will even find oriental and latin elements. I think this is an exciting mixture.

DA - Which Aguilar rig are you using? Did you use it to record with?

PM - I'm using a DB750 together with two GS 410's on stage and this is really the fattest sound I've ever had. But what impresses me about Aguilar is not only the immense power and dynamics, the amps have an exceptionaly defined tone! That's why I used the DB750 on a couple of tracks on the new CD. The GS 410's are great too, no matter where you are on stage you'll hear yourself very well in the band context.

DA - What is your main bass?

PM - I'm mostly using a 79 Fender Jazz Bass, which is "tuned" with EMG pickups. That gives the sound a bit more clarity and it's also easy to use in the studio.

DA - How does your Aguilar rig compliment this instrument?

PM - The Aguilar rig gives it the right punch and growl I need to feel on stage. The tubey flavour which the DB750 provides is the perfect supplement to the clarity of my Jazz Bass.
